Stan McDaniel writes: "With my encouragement, Dr. Joann Feldman of the Sonoma State Music Department wrote "Song of Durin" to the poem in LOTR that begins "The world was young, the mountains green, no stain yet on the moon was seen, no words were laid on stream or stone, when Durin woke and walked alone." This composition was for bass soloist and full chorus, but never performed as such. I recall that the bass soloist for one of the performances was Dr. Edward Mooney of the SSU Philosophy Dept."
