There’s a red haze in the sky
And it makes me wonder why
Fiery embers rising high into the air
And so the reason I despair
Clouds of ash keep raining down
Falling sadly on the ground
Ghostly memories where the green covered the land
Pain and heartbreak hand in hand

And the earth hears the sound
As each tree hits the ground
Grief and sorrow go largely unseen
There’s a tear in my eye
As each leaf curls and dies
It’s no secret that my heart is green

Can you hear the cypress call
Or watch the cedar as it falls
Standing idly by all of the time
No oak or pine that’s left to climb
There’s a stand that should be made
And a forest to be saved
The fight for justice planted firmly in mind
And seeds of doubt left far behind

And the earth hears the sound
As each tree hits the ground
Grief and sorrow go largely unseen
There’s a tear in my eye
As each leaf curls and dies
It’s no secret that my heart is green

And the earth hears the sound
As each tree hits the ground
Grief and sorrow go largely unseen
There’s a tear in my eye
As each leaf curls and dies
It’s no secret that my heart is green
