Stan McDaniel writes "I would have written the prototype for my In Memoriam Tolkien suite even before Tolkien's passing since that earlier version, for small instruments, was not titled as such. The first performance of the suite was in 1977 by all-volunteer Sonoma State University music students playing at an <a href="http://fancyclopedia.org/octocon-1" target="_blank">OCTOCON</a> sci-fi convention in Santa Rosa CA. I wrote Namarie in 1968 for unaccompanied chorus using Tolkien's Poem also called Galadriel's Lament in Lorien. This is the poem beginning "Ai! Laurie Lantar Lassi Surinen." and is sung all in Elvish."</p>
